Cassata Cake originated in Palermo, Italian Region of Sicilia.
Also known as the Cassata Siciliana. It is prepared with a round sponge cake that is moistened from liquore with hints of fruit juice. Then layered with candied peel, ricotta cheese, and vanilla or chocolate cream filling similar to that of the Sicilian Cannoli. Decorated with a layer of marzipan usually with green and pink icing and decorative designs. Candied fruits of cherries and citrus finalize the top of the Cassata Siciliana!
